A good role-playing game is composed of a well-written story, deep compatibility among the likable heroes, an intriguing and addicting progressions system (leveling up), and entertaining battles. Sure, someone can think of more to add, but these attributes have been in every RPG that is still considered to be playable and of good quality. For starters, yes, there are indeed eight different characters to choose from and bring into combat. Double the amount of characters in Shining Soul, each of these characters is VERY adaptable. Whether it be the basic yet sure warrior, the sexy sorceress, the ranged archer, the slow but mighty dragonute, the supporting priestess, the werewolf brawler, the Sephirothic-cool dark wizard, or the quick and stylish ninja, they will all have their own unique progress to show. All of them have the generic yet adjustable stats of strength, dexterity, intelligence, and vitality. On top of that, they all have eight unique skills that make them very different from one another in actual gameplay. This is possible because with every level-up, points can be allotted in whatever direction the gamer wishes. Deep and fun progression plus an addicting skill system make for a very fun adventure for those who actual like games that aren't a walk in the park. That's the case even if the dungeons don't bother to hide their fake videogame nature. Some of the scenes and background and areas that this game puts one through are rather exciting to see and be involved with, and are some of the best you'll find on the GBA(even rivaling those of Golden Sun). However, the purpose of these dungeons is to get in there, beat the crap out of all there is, gather treasure and then get out. There is no backtracking in the dungeons, and very often all of the monsters in a certain “room” have to be defeated in order to advance to the next “room”. But it's all so very fun to do. The simple, yet great and adaptable gameplay are what make this game very fun to play. The graphical and memory limitations of the Game Boy Advance are actually a blessing in this regard, as the developers focus more on what makes a game GOOD rather than LOOK GOOD. It is what makes Advance Wars the best turn-based strategy game of this generation and arguably of all time. It's why Shining Soul 2 is very entertaining gaming experience, while another game that involves cutting down monsters over and over again, like Onimusha 3, can get quite boring after a while. Sure, there's only one town in the game (but there are many dungeons). The story might not be of Final Fantasy level. However, in a generation of games where developers put more time into cutscenes, talking, and character development than into pure gameplay, this hack/slash RPG is a huge relief. There's a time and place for games that are more like movies, but Shining Soul 2 is a reminder as to what this hobby of videogames is all about.Read full review

I am really glad that eBay asked me to write a review about my experience with this purchase. I'd like to say that in the distant past, I was very satisfied with the experience of a purchase like this. But due to the changes made at eBay, I find myself seeking alternatives to using eBay. Their customer service is horrific, and heaven forbid someone ever not pay you. Good luck getting your $ back. Oh, by the way, the product is really neat!
